Michele McLellan
Director
Michele McLellan has been an editor and manager in newspapers for 25 years, most recently at The Oregonian
in Portland, Oregon, with assignments including politics editor, ombudsman and special projects editor.
She also has taught and spoken about journalism ethics nationally and internationally and is the primary
author of “The Newspaper Credibility Handbook” for the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
A former Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, she has taught journalism at Harvard and at Royal University

Tim Porter
Associate Director
Tim Porter is an editor and writer with an extensive background in daily newspaper and online
journalism. In addition to providing journalism, research, consulting and management services to news and
other information-intensive organizations, Porter is the author of First Draft,
a popular blog devoted to quality journalism.
Judy Christie
Management Consultant
Judy Pace Christie is a veteran journalist who owns
a consulting business that offers down-to-earth tools
for improving newspapers. Her work includes coaching newspaper executives and mid-level editors in leadership
skills and job growth, newspaper critiques and strategic planning. She has been a top editor at newspapers in
Florida, Louisiana, and Tennessee.
Helen Hutten
Program Coordinator
Helen Hutten has been in project management in business and in education for 24 years. For
seventeen years, she developed, designed and implemented complex computer systems for large health care
corporations. She has worked in public schools teaching students of all ages and as a leader in numerous
community organizations.
